Role Description Department
We are looking for a talented and motivated full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the group of Professor Ian Hitchcock based in the Department of Biology at the University of York. The Hitchcock lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms of cytokine signalling in haematological malignancies with particular interest in translating fundamental biology to address therapeutic needs. We have recently taken a multi-disciplinary approach to characterise the mechanisms of cytokine receptor activation in myeloproliferative neoplasms (Wilmes et al., Science 2020; Sangkhae et al., Blood, 2014) and modify cytokine signalling to direct haematopoietic cell fate outcomes (Cui et al., PNAS, 2021).
Role
We currently have a position available focused on further understanding the mechanisms of oncogenic cytokine signalling in haematological malignancies and cytokine - receptor interactions. You will already possess or will soon be awarded a PhD in structural biology, molecular biophysics, protein-protein interactions or a related subject. You will have experience in recombinant protein production and protein purification and in a range of molecular, structural and biophysical techniques such as size-exclusion chromatography linked to multi-angle laser light scattering (SEC-MALLS), microscale thermophoresis (MST), surface plasmon resonance (SPR), X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy.
The position is funded by Cancer Research UK. The post is full time, on a fixed-term basis for 14 months. This is a Grade 6 post, with salary in the range of £35,308 to £43,155 per annum depending on experience.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
PhD in structural biology, molecular biophysics, protein-protein interactions or a related subject.
Knowledge of a range of research techniques and methodologies.
Experience of carrying out both independent and collaborative research, and writing up research work for publication.
Willingness to contribute to the process of securing future research funding.
Interview date: To be confirmed
For informal enquiries: please contact Professor Ian Hitchcock by email at ian.hitchcock@york.ac.uk
