Senior Bioinformatician in Immune Single-Cell Omics & Machine Learning
University of Oxford
We have an exciting opportunity for an Oxford-J&J Senior Bioinformatician in Immune Single-Cell Omics & Machine Learning to join the group of Prof Calliope Dendrou, based in the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, with close co- supervision by Prof Holm Uhlig at the Translational Gastroenterology Unit (TGU, JR Hospital) and the Centre for Human Genetics (CHG).
In this role you will conduct detailed analysis of multi-modal single-cell data and other next generation sequencing and imaging datasets generated – using the analysis to identify, define and plan new projects that contribute to the overall aims of the projects. You will be expected to develop and use novel methodologies (e.g. machine learning/AI approaches) for interrogating and integrating datasets - creating, testing and implementing version- controlled computer code as required. You will devise novel approaches for data analysis, develop informatics structures to manage large datasets, and contribute to code and data sharing and deposition via appropriate portals. You will be responsible for identifying and troubleshooting technical or scientific problems, working collaboratively with team members to overcome issues.
For this you, you will be required to hold a PhD in Immunology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or other related computational subject. It is essential that you have experience in the analysis of single-cell RNA-seq data (e.g. generated using 10X Genomics platforms), analysing single-cell repertoire (TCR/BCR) sequencing data and CITE-Seq data, and applying ML/AI approaches to single-cell and immune repertoire analysis. You must be able to demonstrate the ability to deliver high-calibre analytical outputs as evidenced through a strong publication record in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and a high degree of ambition and self-motivation. It is essential that you have excellent analytical and quantitative skills with a proven ability to utilise statistical tools, solve problems and think critically about scientific analysis to generate robust, reproducible results.
It is preferrable that you also have experience with analysing spatial omics datasets, analysing multi-colour immunofluorescence imaging data, and analysing proteomics data.
This is a fixed-term, full time position until 10/04/2026.
A lower grade offer (Grade 7: £36,024- £44,263 p.a.) may be made to a less experienced candidate (such as recent PhD/DPhil graduates) or a candidate who needs further training in one or more aspects of this position, if a suitable candidate cannot be found to fill the Grade 8 position.
Due to the nature of the research at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, this job will require additional security pre-employment checks:
• A satisfactory basic Disclosure and Barring Service check
The closing date for this position is 12 noon on 2 July 2024. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.
