The Opportunity
We are seeking a talented Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Atmosphere and Climate Group in the School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment at Monash University. The Research Fellow will work with Dr Martin Singh and other academics in the Atmosphere and Climate Group on improving our fundamental understanding of tropical atmospheric circulations and their behaviour in different climates.
As Research Fellow, you will combine observational analysis, numerical modelling, and theory to elucidate how various processes influence the vertical structure of tropical overturning circulations. The project may include idealised modelling with both high-resolution cloud-permitting models and lower-resolution global-circulation models, and the successful candidate will be able to develop the project according to their interests.
The successful applicant will contribute to the funded ARC Discovery Project "A theory for the vertical structure of tropical atmospheric circulations " , whose aim is to understand the physical factors that control how tropical atmospheric circulations vary with height. Such variation plays an important role in governing precipitation rates at the surface and energy transport within the atmosphere, but its dependence on the mean climate state remains uncertain.
To succeed in this role, you will have a PhD, good quantitative skills, and demonstrated knowledge in a relevant field such as climate modelling, climate dynamics, physical oceanography, atmospheric science, hydrology, mathematics, or other related areas.
The successful applicant will also be expected to conduct research of the highest international quality, publish the results in world-leading journals and present them at major national and international conferences.
Diversity is one of our greatest strengths at Monash. We encourage applications from First Nations people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with disabilities, neurodiverse people, and people of all genders, sexualities and age groups.
Be part of our story. Work with us to#ChangeIt.
Monash avidly supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements. We have a range of policies in place enabling staff to combine work and personal commitments more easily.
If you feel that you have the skills and experience to make this role a success, your application is most welcome.
Your application must include 1) a cover letter, 2) CV and 3) responses to the selection criteria. Please refer to "How to apply for Monash Jobs".
