Job Description
Excellent opportunity to join a well-established National Eye Institute supported lab to study the role of sex, estrogen, estrogen receptors, and menopause on phenotype development of mouse corneal endothelial dystrophy models to address the question of whether estrogen is protective or detrimental in the development of the age-related corneal endothelial dystrophies.
This question will be addressed through the use of estrogen receptor knockouts, several corneal endothelial dystrophy models, and a new protocol for development of mouse menopause. In addition, the fellow can participate in related studies examining metabolomics, protein-protein interactions, and oxidative stress in corneal endothelial dystrophies.
The Bonanno lab has mentored many graduate students and postdocs who have gone on to academic faculty positions, industry, business, and clinical practice over 30+ years of activity. The postdoctoral fellow will have additional scientific opportunities to collaborate with many ocular research labs at the school and biomedical research labs at IU. Salary commensurate with NIH guidelines. Expected start date: February 1, 2025.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should possess good interpersonal and communication skills, excellent organizational skills, strong work ethic and a high motivation to learn. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Minimum: PhD (or equivalent) in a biological science field required.
Preferred Skills
Experience with mouse handling & breeding, recombinant DNA technology, microscopy, biochemistry assays.
